Just remember, the longer the tri, the less important the swim is relative to the rest of the event. The number 1 priority for Ironman is getting to the end of the bike ride with enough in the tank to start running. If that means cruising around the swim then that's the best thing to do. Last year I regretted not doing any bike rides straight after swimming - something I aim to do this year.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like once you've got over the fact the waters cold you're going to nail these events.
ReplyDeleteIs 20km about 12miles?
That must have been a tough cycle route, the winner still took 30mins. 24mph average?
17mins for his run. How do people run so quickly!!
Well, I'm going to have another go this weekend. Its a 1000 meter swim so I'm bricking it but I will try try and try again.
ReplyDeleteRed - It was windy.
Simon, found your blog hunting for some more craft tri shorts (I got some in a sale and wish i'd bought a second pair) anyways, interesting to read about your swim panic. I had real fear during swim training for a 70.3 last year and as well as finding a pile of stuff on the web I also got the swimming without stress book from swimmingwithoutstress.co.uk (i'm not connected to them) and it really helped with the swimming - technique and feel. Swimming was the great unknown for me before triathlon. Worth checking out perhaps. Anyways - good luck with the triathlon - and fitting the training in around real life :O)
ReplyDeleteCheers Anon. I will look into it. I need all the help I can get.
